MR. GAURAV BANSAL’S DISCOURSE TO THE STUDENTS OF DOON DEFENCE ACADEMY ABOUT THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR MERCHANT NAVY GUEST LECTURE BY MR. GAURAV BANSAL-THE ADMISSION MANAGER OF SAMUNDRA INSTITUTE OF MARINE STUDIES “TRAVELLING TO VARIOUS DESTINATIONS IS THE BEST WAY TO REJUVENATE ONESELF” On the 24th of November 2022, Mr. Gaurav Bansal-the admission manager of Samundra Institute of Marine Studies delivered a captivating discourse on the recruitment procedure and selection criteria of the students in the Merchant Navy. He guided and motivated the DDA and NDA girl students and Merchant Navy students about the various career options available to them as Deck officers and Marine engineers. DDA has been providing complete guidance and counseling to the students (both for medical and non-medical stream) who are willing to join Merchant Navy after their 10+2. The academic classes are held at DDA to make the students future-ready for their written test and interview so as to clear their IMU CET and also get them the company sponsorship so that they become eligible to take admission in a Marine college as either Deck officers or Marine Engineers. He explained to him the various designations they will get under the two departments-Nautical Department and Engineering Department. The Nautical Department includes the post of Master(Captain), Chief Navigating officer, Second Navigating officer, 3rd Navigating officer, Jr. Navigating officer, and Deck Cadets. Engineering Department includes the posts like Chief Engineering officer, Second Engineering officer, 3rd Engineering officer, 4th Engineering officer, 5th Engineering officer, and Trainee Engineering. He gave a detailed description of the various types of ships. Attractive Pay perks are offered to the Merchant Navy officers whether they are designated under Nautical Department or Engineering Department. Like for a Captain, the salary is between 9 lakhs to 14 Lakhs per month, for the second chief officer, the salary is between 6 lakhs to 8.5 lakhs per month, for an Electro-technical officer, the salary is between 3 lakh to 4 lakh per month, for the second and third Engineering officer, the salary is between 2.6 to 3.5 lakh and for Junior Engineering officer, the salary is between 20,000 to 50,000 per month. Not only is the salary very attractive but there are many other benefits of being recruited by the Merchant Navy and one of the greatest benefits is to get an opportunity to have a tour around the world to various magnificent destinations and exquisite places that a person might not have dreamed to go within the expenditure that a person could have incurred personally from his own bank account. All these facilities are made available to candidates who are fond of adventure and love to travel everywhere. One can join Merchant Navy after B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) or after B.Tech(Electrical Engineering). One can also do a diploma in Nautical Science at SIMS, cadetship onboard ESM ships or get B.Sc (Nautical Science) from Indian Maritime University and can become the 3rd officer. The student can do a four-year course of B.Tech (Marine Engineering) course at SIMS or get a B.Tech (ME) degree from Indian Maritime University. To be recruited in the Merchant Navy, one needs to get 50 to 60 percent marks and clear the IMU CET Test. Doon Defence Academy provides the students with a road map as per their abilities and caliber as to which task and post will be most suitable for them. All the recruitment-related procedures are well explained and supported by DDA. Many students have already been designated to their dream designations in Merchant Navy with the academic support and help provided by the capable faculty members of DDA who guide the students very well. The most complex is the online form-filling procedure which is also available for the convenience of the DDA students at the Computer Laboratory, inside the premises of DDA. The second advantage of being a DDA student is that sponsorship from a Marine company is available for the DDA students if they qualify for the IMU CET and DDA is amalgamated with all the Marine Companies so Sponsorship is no longer a hassle. Students are therefore invited to DDA to receive the required guidance from the trained faculty members and guest speakers who are invited by Sandeep Sir to deliver their precious discourse to the students regarding the possibility of recruitment in the Merchant Navy at tantalizing positions and posts with handsome pay perks such as are not anywhere else in any private organization.
