PHOTO EXHIBITION ORGANIZED AT DOON DEFENCE ACADEMY

“There is always a Silver Lining around dark clouds” The title of the Photo exhibition is ‘I WAS THERE’ On the 9th of September 2022, Doon Defence Academy catalogued a Photo Exhibition to commemorate the tragic and unfortunate death of thousands of people inside the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City in the USA. The towers were attacked by hijacked planes with suicidal intentions. The photo exhibition was inaugurated by Mr Satish Sharma-the Special Guest of Honour and the owner of the Garhwal post-the most widely circulated newspaper in Dehradun. He is also known for his role as a famous actor in Bollywood films. The exhibition was the outcome of the efforts put in by the photographer Mr Kamal Sharma and his daughter Kriti Sharma who briefed the entire exhibition while spectators inquisitively viewed the snapshots. Mr Kamal Sharma is an International Sports Photojournalist who has been working as a photojournalist for the last 30 years. It was in 2001 when he was in New York to capture US Open Tennis tournament that the tragedy occurred and he captured the devastation coincidentally. He is an eye-witness to the entire incident. The exhibition was attended by Mrs Divya Gupta along with the other staff and faculty members and the students from the foundation wing as well as from Doon Defence Academy were invited to see the magnificent display of the snapshots. The main objective of the exhibition was to give a message to the entire human race that it is impossible for the human race to flourish if terrorism is nurtured and we should say no to terrorism. The exhibition was a mirror view of the flesh back in 2002 when the horrifying tragedy occurred and its aftermaths were clipped. The photo exhibition displayed pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. The twin towers which seemed like skyscrapers were completely devastated by the massive explosion that erupted due to the collision of the suicidal crash of the hijacked planes into the towers, killing 3000 people. A city which never slept was enveloped in darkness. Though the skyline photo taken the previous night was shimmering with illuminating lights which was a glimpse of the liveliness that existed in New York City whereas the same skyline looked ghastly due to the darkest night after the attack. The pictures of the evacuation of the people from the area of the explosion was depicting the terror-stricken people horrified at the sudden devastation. Even the Sun which depicts eternal light was envisaged by the black cloud of smoke that emanated from the devastating twin towers ultimately converting into a heap of rubble and vanishing from sight. The photo exhibition was the outcome of intense passion with which Mr Kamal Sharma pursued his dream career of photography to take the snapshots of probably the same planes which were used by the terrorists for the suicidal attack on the towers on that fateful day and who put his life at stake to jump the barricade with the intention of taking some rare photo clips of the explosion that became a death pyre of so many people. The Silver lining- the USA still illuminated their lights on Brooklyn Bridge showing their indomitable spirit and their immense spirit to surmount all devastations and move on even after the doom. The dead bodies were extracted from the debris and the blood of the people who died was washed away but the sin that brought the doom can not be washed away ever even in purgatory. So intense was the effect of the devastation that no American was ready to trust any brown-skinned person even years after the horrifying disaster and the tears of the bereaved families couldn’t be wiped with words of consolation. On behalf of Doon Defence Academy, our gratitude is expressed to the Director Mr Sandeep Gupta who thoughtfully organized the Photo exhibition to be shown to the spectators. JAI HIND
