SSC CGL 2025 Selection Process

Through SSC CGL 2025, Staff Selection Commission announces vacancies for various Group B & C posts for which conducting separate exams could be quite difficult. So to make the selection process easy, SSC only conducts Tier 1 and Tier 2 Examinations, which are both computer-based.

SC conducts a two-tier SSC CGL selection process to shortlist candidates for various Group B and C posts under the SSC CGL 2025.

Stages in SSC CGL Selection Process

The SSC CGL selection process involves Tier 1 computer-based exam followed by tier 2. After qualifying in both stages, candidates have to appear for the Document Verification (DV) round.

SSC CGL Tier 1

Computer-Based Test (CBT 1)- Tier I is a qualifying stage, and the marks scored in this tier are not considered for the final merit list. It serves as a screening test to shortlist candidates for Tier-II.

Key Points for SSC CGL Tier 1
  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based (Online)
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.
  • Language of Examination: Questions will be set in both English and Hindi, except for the English Comprehension section.
  • Normalisation of Scores: If the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, the scores will be normalized.
  • Qualifying Nature: Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the SSC to be eligible for Tier-II. The minimum qualifying marks are generally fixed at 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.

SSC CGL Tier 2

Computer-Based Test (CBT 2)- Tier-II is the main examination, and the scores obtained in this tier are crucial for the final selection. It consists of several papers, and the specific papers a candidate needs to appear for depend on the posts they have applied for.

Key Points for SSC CGL Tier 2
  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based (Online)
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: In Paper I, there will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section I and Section II, and Section III. There is no negative marking in the DEST modules of Section IV. For Paper-II, there will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.
  • Qualifying Paper: In Paper 1, Section-III i.e. Computer Knowledge Test and Section-IV i.e. Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) will be mandatory for all the posts; however, it will be qualifying in nature.
  • Language of Examination: Questions in Paper-I will be in both English and Hindi, except for the English Language and Comprehension module. Paper-II and Paper-III will also be bilingual.
  • Compulsory Papers: Paper I is compulsory for all candidates who qualify in Tier I. Paper II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)
  • Merit Determination: The final merit list will be prepared based on the overall performance in Tier-II.

Document Verification

Candidates who qualify in the Tier-II examination will be called for Document Verification (DV). They will have to produce original documents along with self-attested photocopies in support of their eligibility, identity, age, educational qualifications, category, etc., as mentioned in the official notification. Failure to produce the required documents will lead to disqualification.
