WOMEN ENTRY SCHEMES TO JOIN ARMED FORCES

In 1992, the Army, Navy and Air Force opened their gates to women. Those of you who have an ardent desire to serve their country against enemy forces now have the chance to do so through the following routes.

Indian Army:-

There are four different ways in which you can join the Indian Army :

Combined Defence Services (CDS) Entry, NCC Special Entry, Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry, Short service Commission (SSC) Technical Entry.

CDS Entry:-

Unmarried female candidates who fall in the age group of 19 to 25 years and have done graduation (any stream) from a recognized university can apply for this entry.
Selection is done through a written exam conducted by UPSC twice every year. The candidates who clear the written exam are then called for the Interview.

SSC (Tech) Entry:-

Unmarried female candidates between 20 to 27 years of age who possess a graduate degree in Engineering are eligible. Selection is done solely on the basis of merit and no written exam is conducted.

NCC Special Entry:-

Unmarried female candidates between 19 to 25 years who have a graduate degree (any stream) with a minimum of 50% aggregate plus who have also done 2 years of service in NCC Senior Division Army obtaining a minimum ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ certificate examination are eligible.

JAG Entry:-

Unmarried female candidates falling in the age group of 21 to 27 years who have graduated LLB with a minimum 55% aggregate and be a member of the Bar Council of India.

Indian Air Force:-

These females who wish to touch the sky with glory can surely do so by joining the Indian Air Force! To join the Air Force, you need to clear the AFCAT exam held twice a year. Once you clear the exam, you are then called for the interview.
Through AFCAT, women can enter the Flying Branch, Technical Branch and Non-Technical Branch. You can apply in the flying branch for SSC, which extends for a maximum tenure of 14 years. For this you need to be 20 to 24 years of age and have a graduate degree in any discipline with an aggregate of 60% marks plus you should have also studied Maths & Physics at 10+2 level with minimum 50% marks.

As an Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate holder of the NCC, you can apply to the Flying Branch of IAF upto 26 years of age.

Female engineering graduates in the age group of 20 to 26 years can join the technical branch (mechanical or Electrical)
For the graduates and post graduates between 20 to 26 years of age there are Five types of services in ground duty branches in departments namely Administration, Accounts, Logistics, Education and Meteorology.

Indian Navy:-

Presently, Women are inducted in the Indian Navy through the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) Unmarried female candidates who fall in the age group of 19 1/2 to 27 years can apply for different branches namely Naval Architecture, Education, Law, Observer, ATC & Logistics.

Girls between 19 to 24 years of age who held an NCC Naval Wing ‘C’ certificate who possess a B.Tech degree with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks can also join the Indian Navy. Selection is done solely on the basis of merit and no written exam is conducted.
