WAGA BORDER REVERBERATED WITH THE PATRIOTIC SLOGANS RAISED BY DDA STUDENTS EDUCATIONAL TOUR ORGANIZED FOR THE STUDENTS OF PRATHAM PAG-FOUNDATION WING OF DDA Dehradun: An Educational tour to Wagha Border-Amritsar was organized for the students of Pratham Pag –the foundation wing supervised and regulated by Doon Defence Academy. The students of Pratham Pag and DDA were overwhelmed with thrill and excitement to see the Retreat ceremony conducted ceremoniously and formally at Wagha Border. Not only did the students of Pratham Pag and DDA enjoyed the Retreat ceremony, but thousands of Indians present there too were overjoyed and thrilled to witness the Retreat ceremony and shouted the patriotic slogans which reverberated all across the Wagha Border. Doon Defence Academy is an institute that promotes the all-round development of its students. Not only do the students excel in academics, sports activities, tournaments, and social work but also they enthusiastically participate in all educational tours to let their spirit and mind be open to new experiences adding to their practical knowledge. Apart from Wagha Border, the students were taken on a sightseeing tour to Jallianwala Bagh and Golden Temple. All the students were made to prostrate before the holy shrine and religiously accept the holy offering (Prashad) and the auspicious meal (langar). Then the students reached the Jallianwala Bagh and were given detailed information about the most brutal massacre that occurred on 13th April 1919 in the Jallianwala Bagh killing and injuring thousands of innocent Indians who revolted against the Britishers. Thereafter, the students reached the Wagha Border to witness the Retreat ceremony at India-Pakistan Border. During the Retreat ceremony, the DDA and Pratham Pag students along with thousands of other Indians were overwhelmed with patriotic fervor at the sight of BSF jawans marching elegantly to the musical tune of the Bugle, thus making the spectators get overwhelmed with patriotic emotions and shouting slogans to express their nationalistic enthusiasm and love for their country. The chests of all the spectators including the DDA and Pratham Pag students swelled with pride and they all excitedly shouted in Unison “Bharat Mata Ki Jaya” and ‘Vande Mataram’ which resonated all across the Wagha Border. The official escorts from DDA were Assistant In charge J.M.Kothari, D.I. Dharmendra Singh Rawat, Warden Rajesh Gurung, Sundar Ajay Thapa, and PTI Tarun and the students enjoyed their tour under the close supervision and check of these staff and faculty members. For Medical Assistance, Rajesh Prasad was with the students. The most amazing and memorable moments of joy and excitement of the students were captured in the camera by the cameraman Nikhil Mourya. During the educational Tour, the senior faculty Mr. Giri Raj Gupta and Sachin Gupta were also present. SPECIAL FEATURE OF THE WAGHA BORDER Wagha Border is the threshold or the outer fringe of India and Pakistan. Every evening, the BSF soldiers conduct a Retreat ceremony inside the Indian boundary line. Thousands of Indians assemble at this juncture to witness the ceremony. Wagha border is located in a small village in the Wagha district of Lahore city of Pakistan and is Sangh Parishad (Union Council) 181). This town is famous for the Retreat ceremony conducted at the borderline and Paragaman terminal also operates as a Railway station between and India and Pakistan. It is located 600 meters away (2000 feet) in the east of the Wagha Border, and it is located at the historical Grand truck road between Lahore of India, and Amritsar. This border is at a distance of 24 km (15 miles) and at distance 32 Km(20 miles). This Retreat ceremony is conducted religiously every evening at the same place. HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT JALLIANWALA BAGH The Massacre of Jallianwala Bagh- which is also termed the most brutal and cruel attack on Indians by the soldiers of General Dyer occurred on the 13th of April 1919. The Indians revolted against the Rowlatt Act. It was with the objective to arrest the Indian freedom fighters that the massacre, unfortunately, took place.
