INTERVIEW OF THE RETIRED NAVY OFFICER AND DOON DEFENCE ACADEMY COUNSELLOR ‘LOOK FOR YOUR CHOICES, PICK THE BEST ONE, THEN GO WITH IT’ In an interview online with Mr. Anil Rawat, the retired Navy officer and counselor of DDA, Mr. M.S. Rawat briefly explained the procedure and the requirements for various openings available to the students in the armed forces like NDA, SSB interview, Agniveer Navy, Agniveer Air Force, CDSE, OTA, AFCAT, Sort Service Commission, GD banking, Merchant Navy and Foundation Course. There are many more such openings for candidates who wish to join the armed forces. The fee structure of the courses is generally taken once a year and it never changes. The fee package is specified for every academic session from April to March and the package of fees is not burdensome for the parents as the fee structure is reasonable. If the candidates join before April, the fee package is different as they get compensation or a discount on the fees. The Institution also pays the 18 per cent GST to the government and within the specified fee amount, the candidate also gets other benefits like Study material, bag and uniform and no extra fees is charged for all these accessories. If the candidate comes after April, the fee package for them is different as they have to pay extra fees. Discount is available to the children of ex-servicemen in the armed forces and on other such parameters. The students can study in both Hindi as well as English. During winter, the classes are held between 8.30 to 5.30 in the evening, and in summer, the classes are held from 8.30 in the morning to 8 in the evening. Fees is just one time and the lump sum is only accepted. The students from the PCM group are only eligible here as students for certain courses. The student can appear for the NDA exam only till the age of 18 years six months. It takes 8 to 9 months for the selection procedure to complete and let the candidates get on board as cadets in the armed forces. English, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, General Awareness, and reasoning. The students can make a choice of which class they want to attend first in some subjects. The candidates can fill their exams from the DDA computer laboratory. The candidate who seeks admission here should be medically fit. The height and weight criteria need to be assured and the candidate should not be medically decrypt for that the candidate should get his medical examination done before coming to DDA. The students need to be ready with the credentials like the xerox copy of their Aadhar card, the mark sheet, and the certificate of class tenth and twelfth. The students need to bring proof if the candidate wants to get a discount, they need to show the documents of their late parents on behalf of which a ten percent discount will be given to them. The candidates need to get their age parameters ascertained to find out at what age, they can appear for the NDA or any other competitive exam. Even for Merchant Navy, the candidate should be a PCM student and should have a scorecard with not less than 60 percent in PCM and 50 percent in English to become a deck cadet, the candidate has to clear the test of the hiring company which conducts the ICU-CET exam for the candidates. The students can avail of the hostel facility at DDA. The hostel facility is available for the candidates who wish to avail of the boarding and lodging facility at the hostel.
